Thrive Teams

God does God’s best work in us through others.  So at Salt House we have ways of connecting with one another so we can thrive in our faith. We call them Thrive Teams - small groups of folks who ask questions, listen together, support one another, and serve in the community to share their lives and the life of Jesus.  We make space for God to do the transforming work that God does best.

Spring 2017 Thrive TEAMS

Gather together regularly with a group in a public place or someone's home to read scripture (up), reflect on life, pray for one another (in), and engage in a particular area of serving (out).

SINGLE YOUNG ADULTS

When: Mondays from 6:30 to 8:00pm
Where: Danielle Dadashi's home
Leader: Danielle Dadashi

This outreach group is an experiment to reach young adults on the fringes of our community. We’ll gather just for Lent, focusing on forming community while exploring prayer in our lives. So often we think that there’s one “right” way to pray, but there are as many different ways to pray as there are people. Join us for conversation, food and community.

MUSIC THRIVE TEAM

When: Tuesdays from 6:30 - 7:30pm (music team reahearsal following).
Where: Salt House
Leader: Jason Bendickson

We strive to create an atmosphere of worship and connectedness at Salt House by curating the multi-sensory soundtrack of our worship experiences. We do this by:

KIDS THRIVE TEAM

When: Tuesdays at 7:00pm
Where: Salt House
Leader: Bob Benoit, Michelle Beebe

We strive to build inter-generational relationships which support the spiritual growth and development of our children. We do this by:

  • Building relationships through Sunday morning Children’s time.
  • Building community through family focused activities outside of Sunday mornings: Easter Egg hunts, Movie Nights
  • Providing support to the Children’s Ministry at Salt House through work projects in the Kid’s room.
  • “One Parent at a Time” Lenten prayer journey:  this group will work through our Prayer book but we will repeat the topics every other week so parents can alternate weeks in attendance without missing a discussion (one parent comes one week and the other parent comes the next week). This helps with child care and hopefully won’t over burden time commitments for families. The last session (April 11) we’ll meet all together to recap our experiences.

COMMUNITY GARDEN THRIVE TEAM

When: Wednesdays at 7:00pm (garden work as scheduled)
Where: Salt House
Leader: Levi & Kaylee Bilderback

We strive to connect with each other and our living environment. We do this by:

  • Growing food to help feed our community, especially those who don’t have the means.
  • Maintaining and adding to the natural beauty of our property.
  • Nurturing each other and the land through collaboration and teamwork, focusing on the learning process, expecting to fail and learn from failure.

WELCOME THRIVE TEAM

When: Sundays from 9:15 - 10:00am
Where: Salt House
Leader: Sean Mobley

We strive to create an atmosphere of warmth and community for all people who enter Salt House. We do this by:

  • Ensuring every person is greeted by at least two people before entering the sanctuary.
  • Supporting the worship experience by distributing necessary materials and paying attention to worshipers’ needs, especially guests and individuals who do not frequently attend.
  • Using the start of worship to actively foster community building (opening question, game or activity).
  • Engaging visitors and guests in conversation during meals; sitting near people who have no one else nearby.

MEALS THRIVE TEAM

When: Sundays after worship
Where: Salt House
Leader: Nancy Wessman

We strive to engage with people at Salt House, our neighbors at the New Bethlehem Day Center, and our extended community with food and hospitality. We do this by:

  • Building relationships and offering people food and beverages in a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Creating meals at Salt House and/or at home, considering dietary needs and menu planning to engage all.
  • Working with the garden community for menu plans using fresh vegetables and herbs.
  • Using compost to help the Community Garden (both Salt House and NBDC composting).
  • Praying and supporting one another, before and while making meals.
  • Other opportunities: Creating a plan to provide a regular meal for NBDC. Starting cooking classes, centered around making a meal for Salt House or NBDC or just for fun.

HOMELESSNESS THRIVE TEAM

When: Sundays after worship
Where: Salt House
Leader: Kim Saunders

We strive to engage outside our comfort zone in our neighborhood’s needs including women & families experiencing homelessness. We do this by:

  • Building relationships through service and fellowship with our New Bethlehem Day Center neighbors.
  • Completing the sale of the agreed-on parcel to the City of Kirkland for siting of the permanent 24/7 shelter for Eastside women and families.
  • Reaching out to increase awareness of our Salt House community’s focus on making a difference for our neighbors.
