Reading List for Racial Reconciliation

Reading List for Racial Reconciliation

Jason Bendickson

On Sunday, Nov. 13 Cara Meredith spoke at Salt House on the topic of racial reconciliation. During her sermon Cara made five points for action.

1. Talk to God.
2. Own your story.
3. Get educated.
4. Notice the marginalized.
5. Get proximate.

In the midst of her comments about getting educated about racial issues, Cara listed off several books that would be helpful reads. Here is that list:

Embrace: God's Radical Shalom for a Divided World – Leroy Barber

America's Original Sin: Racism, White Privilege, and the Bridge to a New America – Jim Wallis

Roadmap to Reconciliation: Moving Communities into Unity, Wholeness and Justice – Rev. Dr. Brenda Salter McNeil

Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption – Bryan Stevenson

The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness – Michelle Alexander

Rescuing Jesus: How People of Color, Women, and Queer Christians are Reclaiming Evangelicalism – Deborah Jian Lee
