Dear Fellow Community Members,

We would like to continue our ongoing engagement with you about our commitment to making a difference in the lives of our Eastside neighbors experiencing homelessness. As you know, the New Bethlehem Day Center opened its doors in our basement in November 2016. As you might recall from our previous communications, the New Bethlehem Day Center is a partnership among Salt House, Catholic Community Services and the New Bethlehem Project team which is focused on increasing the resources available to assist families experiencing homelessness in our community.  We are open every day from 2-8pm. You can get additional information about the New Bethlehem Day Center and the New Bethlehem Project at

We would like to invite you to join us to share your feedback about the operations and impact of the New Bethlehem Day Center on our neighborhood, and to get a chance to meet us and the New Bethlehem Day Center staff. We would welcome your attendance at a Neighborhood Forum on Monday, May 21 at 7pm, hosted by Salt House at 11920 NE 80th Street, Kirkland, WA 98033.  This semi-annual forum is intended to provide a time to share feedback, take a tour of the Day Center if you haven’t yet had a chance to stop by, and for us to continue to deepen our understanding of the needs and interests of all of our neighbors.

At our May forum we would also like to update you about plans for the new 24-hour permanent shelter for families and adult women experiencing homelessness, which will be located on the NW corner of the Salt House property. The building will provide a permanent location for the Eastside shelters and day centers currently run by CCS (who will run the family program) and The Sophia Way (who will operate the program for adult women). We are actively in the fund-raising phase with the Eastside CARES campaign underway and expect to break ground on the new building in early 2019. Note that May 9th is this year’s GiveBIG one-day online giving event. If you’re interested and able to contribute, May 9th is the perfect opportunity! You can find information about the Eastside CARES campaign at

We are always open to hear your thoughts; the Forum is just one opportunity. You can also participate in an online discussion we are hosting on our website at We see community participation as key to our success and we want to work with you to provide a healthy community for all persons. Always feel welcome to contact us individually at this time or in the future.

On behalf of the families served by the current day center, and the families and women who will be served by the new shelter, thank you for considering attending the forum or offering your input in any way to the process.
