Worship at Salt House - Guest Speaker Cara Meredith

Cara Meredith is passionate about living life to the fullest, faith, and issues of racial and social justice. She believes storytelling is one of the best ways all of this happens. Join us for stories, encouragement, and challenge around issues of racial reconciliation.

ON SUNDAY:  Every human life on this planet reflects the image of God. But in this broken world not all lives are treated equally, especially black lives.

So, let’s talk about color. No matter our ethnicity, and no matter whether we’ve ever thought issues of race have to do with us. What does it mean then to own our story, so we can honor the story of others? What does it mean to ask and offer forgiveness? And what does it mean to see as Jesus saw, to have eyes to see the marginalized and the oppressed among us? Let’s explore this together.

Cara is funny, articulate, and honest. She is a writer, speaker, momma of two young boys, and will be speaking about racial reconciliation.

Worship + Brunch - Guest Speaker Abby d'Ambruoso

On Sunday, November 13, we welcome Pastor Abby d'Ambruoso to Salt House. She will be speaking for our continuing series Becoming We about family systems.

Jesus says to love our neighbor as ourselves, but sometimes the hardest neighbors to love are the ones we've known the longest- our families. Families are complex and challenging, and being around family members can bring out our best or our worst. So what are some of the ways we can bring love into our most intense family relationships? It starts with three things: curiosity, responsibility, and grace.

Worship at Salt House guest speaker Kara Haug

On October 9, we welcome Kara Haug, the creator of Grace Unbound, a ministry dedicated to sexuality education rooted in the spirit.

Grace Unbound's PURPOSE:

To provide comprehensive sexual education that call upon all areas in our lives and how they impact our whole selves; as well as providing a place of support where shame can be replaced by grace and healing. We believe in, support and are advocates for the LGBTQ Community.

Grace Unbound's POINT-OF-VIEW:

To acknowledge that God created us as spiritual and sexual beings and as a church we need to minister to and support the needs of the whole person.

kara haug bio.jpg

ABOUT KARA:

Kara Haug is the creator of Grace Unbound. She has her BA in Psychology from Hope College in Holland, MI., a Masters in Theological Studies from Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA., as well as a Post-Grad Certificate in Sexual Health Education and Counseling from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Youth ministry and foster care have been her main career focus.

Kara always asks the big questions; looking for connections to our world and the way people interact in this world together.  Through her experiences in human services, working with youth and the ministry, she has seen the way sexuality and our relationships with God (or lack thereof) affects us to our cores.  This began her fascination with the topics of sexuality and theology. She believes these are the two most intimate parts of a person and that they affect our daily decisions and our politics.

Kara is available as a resource for your congregation or non-profit.  She may be a consultant for your program, or as a speaker at an event. If interested in seeking guidance from Kara or having her speak please fill out the contact form.

Kara lives in Sacramento, California with her pastor husband and her two young children.

Concert with Christopher Williams

Join us for a special concert by Christopher Williams at Salt House on Sunday, April 24. It's a free event and we'll gather to hear great songs and stories. Things kick off around 5:30pm and we'll wrap up about 7:00pm.

We'll have snacks and beverages available as well as childcare for the lil' ones (up to age 4). Let us know you're coming via Facebook so we can make sure we're ready!

CHRISTOPHER WILLIAMS

Hailing from Nashville, but nothing like your typical Nashville songwriter, Christopher Williams is a songwriter, storyteller, and entertainer - offering songs that are honest and confessional, yet never over bearing; and performances that engage audiences with an appealing mix of intense passion and humor.  With “lush guitar work, and sweet soaring vocals,” (Boston Phoenix) punctuated by the percussive vulnerability of a single African djembe hand drum and that stunning baritone voice, Williams continues to be a “hard-touring singer-songwriter and a master at spreading his personal energy out into a live audience.” (Madison Isthmus) Touring nonstop nationally for the last fifteen years at a pace of more than 120 shows a year, Williams has built a faithful following of listeners around the country and is a true independent artist, releasing ten records on his own label. He has toured with Grammy Award winning band Jars of Clay, opening for, as well as playing percussion with the band and has also played with songwriter luminaries Arlo Guthrie, Phil Keaggy, David Wilcox, Patty Larkin and Ellis Paul. With the release of his new CD ‘The City Makes The Man,’ Williams returns to his singer songwriter sound with a stripped down acoustic record reminiscent of his engaging live concerts. With an impressive collection of songs, there comes a certain comfort with the style and vibe of this recording and as Williams has said, 'This record is one that you need to listen to in its entirety from the very first note to the last. In my need to find rest over the last couple years, I had to create that space, and all of these songs came from that quiet. So find 37 minutes to sit and listen and engage with these songs, as I think there is a message that runs throughout that needs to be heard.'

You can hear more from 'The City Makes The Man' at iTunes - follow this link

Worship | Easter Sunday

Resurrection Sunday

We all live within a larger story – what we trust is true, where this world is headed, and who we are in all of it.  Easter – the Jesus story – begs the question: what story are we living?  Come hear the Jesus story in a fresh way – and the invitation to live this story of hope and possibility.  Libations & treats after to celebrate one year at Salt House!

In the Christian tradition, Easter is pretty much the punchline. But if you want to know the rest of the story, you're invited to join us on Friday, March 25th for Good Friday - A late-night experience of Jesus’ final days.  Begins with appetizers & libations – ends at the cross.

Join us for Worship
Every Sunday at 5:30 PM

After worship, stick around for a family meal on the 1st and 3rd Sundays. First Sundays are provided by Salt House, third Sundays are potluck. Childcare for ages birth to 6 years old.

Worship at Salt House is designed to be an experiment; trial and error, full of the sacred and flavored with sometimes silly things that happen when make human plans in an effort to engage with the divine. We are not perfect people and we worship in imperfect ways, but we want to trust in God's leading.

Here are some things you can expect when you come to worship at Salt House:

Singing // Music helps us orient ourselves.  Learn as you go + sing as you feel comfortable. We use modern music and practices informed by the church's historical and liturgical traditions.

Teaching // We teach through an interactive time of engaging the countless intersections between the Bible + Jesus + our lives + our world.

Reflection + Response // A quiet moment with music, prayer, listening to God + choosing a response for now or the week to come.

Communion // As Jesus showed us, we take bread + dip it in wine to remember God’s generosity and presence with + in us.

Childcare // We have childcare available during worship for kids from birth to 6 years old. We always have 2 people on duty and everyone who works with children is background checked.

Opportunities to THRIVE // Engage with community. We want to encourage people to thrive in their lives, especially by engaging with one another.  Check out our opportunities to THRIVE.

Opportunities to GO // Engage the needs of the world. We want to encourage people to live beyond themselves taking Jesus' words to "GO" to heart. Check out our opportunities to GO.

Giving // God is generous with us + we respond by intentionally living generous lives.  It’s easy to support God’s work through Salt House.  Text “Thrive” to 77977 or give online.
